We’re proud to officially announce the launch of the Game Con Canada Brush Masters Presented By Red Claw Gaming our inaugural miniature painting competition debuting at GCC 2026.
The Brush Masters marks a major expansion of our tabletop and hobby programming, transforming GCC 2026 into our most immersive and hobby-focused experience yet. Designed to celebrate precision, creativity, storytelling, and technical mastery, this competition will spotlight painters of all levels, from passionate newcomers to elite, award-winning artists.
Competitors can expect professionally judged categories, curated display showcases, on-stage recognition, and premium prizing worthy of Canada’s largest gaming expo. The Brush Masters will stand as a signature hobby event within GCC, elevating miniature artistry onto one of the biggest stages in the country.

Alex Dos Santos Mini-Painting Classes
Alex is an award-winning miniature artist and the winner of the prestigious 2024 Slayer Sword. Originally from New Caledonia, Alex’s journey began not with rulebooks, but with a passion for tabletop storytelling and character creation. After a decade-long hiatus, he rediscovered the hobby through 3D printing and quickly rose to the top of the international competitive scene.
With a professional background in mechanical and software engineering, Alex brings a unique, logical approach to complex artistic challenges—from color theory to story telling. Based in Montreal, he is a frequent competitor in Golden Demon and instructor at Adepticon. In his classes, Alex focuses on bridging the gap between technical precision and emotional storytelling, helping students find the “soul” in their tiny plastic heroes.

Courtney DeVries is a Canadian miniature painter, educator, and the artist behind Figuratively Speaking Minis. Known for realistic finishes, expressive character work, and an approachable teaching style, Courtney is passionate about making miniature painting accessible and enjoyable for hobbyists of all skill levels. She is an active community educator, content creator, and has previous judging experience, bringing a strong eye for composition and presentation to her workshops and demonstrations.

Dan Ozbörne is a professional miniature painter and industry veteran based in Portland, Oregon, known for his expertise in airbrushing, volumetric lighting, and advanced weathering techniques. In addition to creating high-end commission work, he is an experienced event organizer, painting instructor, and competition judge, having taught at major North American conventions including Games Workshop Warhammer Open events, Adepticon, NOVA Open, and LVO, and served as a judge for the NOVA Open Capital Palette & Verkos Vault Masters Paint Competition. A committed community leader, Dan’s work has been featured by Fallout Hobbies and auctioned for charity through the NOVA Open Charitable Foundation.

Greg Vader Mini-Painting Classes
Greg Vadar is a West Coast-based miniature painter, educator, and founder of WestCoast Minis (@westcoast_minis). Drawing on 20+ years of teaching experience, his classes make mini painting approachable, engaging, and fun. His work has earned awards at AdeptiCon, the Las Vegas Open, and the Warhammer Open; some of his work is on display at Verko’s Vault, a miniature museum in Las Vegas. With a passion for both craftsmanship and teaching, Courtney combines technical precision with an approachable, encouraging style that resonates with hobbyists of all experience levels. At conventions and events like GameCon Canada, Courtney brings an engaging, hands-on approach to miniature painting through live demos, workshops, and interactive instruction. Her teaching philosophy emphasizes accessibility and growth—believing that everyone can learn to paint, experimentation is essential, and mistakes are part of the creative process. Whether demonstrating advanced techniques, guiding first-time painters, or discussing creative problem-solving, Courtney aims to make the hobby welcoming and inspiring.
